Default Shifter spinning

Sorry if this isn't the right section....but how do I tighten down my shifter "ball" to keep from spinning around?

Turn it clockwise until it is tight. If it doesn't tighten up, then it is stripped and may need replacement.

Is there not like a nut on the bottom of the shifter?

I can turn it till it gets tight, but where it stops is about 90 degrees off.

If there's a nut on the bottom, how do I get the boot off?
