Default Cat Trouble

Has anyone had trouble with there factory cats. Mine are rattling. I made a long run the other day(75 miles) at high speed(100) because my step father had a heart attack and I noticed halfway home my cats started rattling. I think its because I have the BBK CAI and TB and no tune. I found out the BBK parts make it run real lean and produces more engine heat. You supposedly do not have to tune with the BBK parts but I highly reccomend it or it can do damage. I have tuned mine now. If you are running the BBK without tunebe careful.I ordered the Basani High Flow cats from Brenspeed today.

You're running a BBK intake and TB with the stock tune? Thats not good. You might be able to get away with running the intake and no tune, but not with that TB.

I hope everything is ok with your father.

Thank you for asking , he's doing well now(2 stints). BBK claims that neither the CAI or the TB need to be tuned. So I don't know. But I got a tune now(Brenspeed). Just installed it. Runs good, can't wit to get rid of the rattle.

I wouldnt think that was the cats rattling.....i would think its pinging since you have both a CAI and TB without a tune.....now that you have it tuned i would run it hard again and see what you hear.

Still doing the same thing after the tune. I talked to one of the guys at Brenspeed about it and he told me"some other guys have had trouble with factory cats lately" It rattles under the seats toward the front. You can also hear it real ugly coming out of the tail pipe at high rpm's. I hate having to baby it until Monday when I get the Basani X put on. Sounds like crap if I get on it. I had a truck one time that the cat broke up inside and it sounds a lot like this.

have you looked at TSB 06-4-1 (exhaust hanger rattle)

it's a remote possibility......just throwing it
out there...

We just made a 5 hour run from louisiana back to texas and most of that was from 85 to 130 mph. Corsa exhaust and granatelli CAI. No rattles.............that bitch ran sweeeeeeeeeeeet.21.5 mpg at anything over 85 with no tune. I love my stang.

I checked al the hangers and clamps on the exhaust. I think it had to do with BBK CAI & TB w/o the tune. I am even getting some black dust out my tail pipe. Very fine-charcoal looking, wipes off easy. Made appointment for Monday to get the Basani X installed. I ran most of that run in 4th gear so I could get around traffic.( 3750-4000 rpms) Pretty dumb I guess. Did not think about it hurting the car at the time.

No reason to run that high RPM all the time....hell if i did that i would be losing control with the slightest touch of the accelerater....get that down to 2500 and a tune.....you engine will thank you!
