hood scoops 3m
ive searched through the forums and have found comments but no threads directly related to hood scoops held on by 3m tape. the louvers are on fine... but im a little skeptical about a hood scoop seeing as how air actually gets trapped in there.. does the 3m tape hold the hood scoop on fine? any issues for anyone? im looking at the astra hammond...

RE: hood scoops 3m
My quarter window louvers and side scoops are 3M mounted but my hood scoop is the factory bolt-on, so I couldn't say howa3M'dhood scoop would hold up. But I'm rather impresed with how my stuff has held. I just returned from a 2200 mile trip thru high heat, heavy rains and steady 75-80 MPH speeds. I would imagine with the right surface prep it would hold fine. But that's just my opinion...

I have seen tape only scoops but the factory
bolts their OEMs on so I would not trust
the 3M tape only unless the system uses a
LOT of tape with plenty of attachment area.
Area = holding power for 3M tape along
with clean surfaces. Also there needs to be a
adhesive promoter used also where the tape
contacts the scoop or the adhesive could
be compromised there.

RE: hood scoops 3m
I have a hood scoop attached with 3m tape. I've had it for a litle over a year and put 10,500 miles on it so far. I drove it all through last winter. No problems yet.
The scoop doesn't actually have an opening on the front to allow air in. I don't think I've seen any non-functional scoops that are really open to the air.

The only comment I have is this...duringthe process of removing my stock spoiler I had to literally saw off with a fishing line the factory tape on the rear spoiler. I tell you what, I don't care what anyone says...that spoiler would not have gone anywhere if it only had the tape w/o the bolts. That thing was glued on solid.
