Tri-ax question?
I just installed (I hope), my steeda triax yesterday. Holy hell that was a hard job for just me, being on my back on the garage floor, never doing it before. Well. With the prochamber and I couldn't get the driveshaft to come off even with removing the four bolts. Anyways, its finally in and I noticed that 3rd and 4th are very clunky. Is that normal? Also it seems like 5th is hard to get on the first try. Thanks in advance
Well, you didn't have to remove the driveshaft to get it in... all you had to do was carefully manuvuer it in and out of the console. I did it on my back as well, and by myself. Anyway, it's going to seem a little stiffer than stock but give it some time and it'll feel normal.
Can't really say, as I just installed a hurst, but yes you'll just need to get used to it. You can't shorten throws and expect it to feel the same but shorter. Its going to be somewhat different... Don't sweat it.
I just was wondering if I had everything installed correctly. Because like I said 1-2 feels fine, but 2-3, 3-4 seems clunky and loud. The reason I asked was to make sure that was just the shifter itself. And like I said about 5th, it seems to take a couple times to get it in. Its not the normal push up to the right. I guess I just have to break it in more.
All I can say is make sure you didnt make the mistake I made... Which was installing the stick's bottom to the rod link backwards, so the stick inside the car was pointing the wrong direction (backwards). If you did this then its not just a problem with the stick pointing backwards, but also a problem on the rod link being too far to the driver's side I believe. This can make shifts harder as I found out on my first drive. Me stupid.

For the $$ amount laid out it should feel perfect
from install date forward. Just whats "loosening up"?
And how does it know to stop "loosening up" when
its just right? Seems like it would just keep "loosening
up" and up and up until it is a sloppy mess of a shifter.
What am I missing?
I actually disagree with the loosen up theory... These shifter assemblys have nothing to loosen up. Their screws are tight and bushings are poly-u, and everything else, theres just nothing to 'loosen up'
Sometimes I think these short shifters are engaging gears slightly differently, and the gears need to 'break in' to the slightly different positioning. Which is why trannies usually dont clunk when brand new but will start soon enough.
Perhaps the tranny's internals are adapting to the short shift, who knows, but whatever.

They do include washers to put under one side of the shifter where it mounts to the underside of the car if the shifting seems to hard, it might be off alignment. After I heal up from my injuries last night, I will try again. lol
