Default Steeda cowl hood

Has anyone installed the Steeda cowl Ind. race hood. Its supposed to help a lot with underhood temps.I was wondering about the fit and corner flex at high speed. Anyone with pics, of one installed would be great.

Don't have one yet, but I'm pretty sure by next summer I'll have one!

We have a steeda cowl on our SEMA car from last year. It bowed in the middle and Steeda did nothing to help. It also flexes and shakes like a mother on the freeway.

I have it on mine and it did flex in the middle when using their gas struts. I disconnected them and had no problems. I will be returning the gas struts shortly. Steeda says they have not had a problem with their hoods but a friend of mine has it on their mustang and it does rub a bit on the front fascia (also a Steeda component). I keep some touch up paint in the car.

as far as moving around when your at highway speeds: They do recommend the hood pins and once I installed them they did not bounce around like they did.

forum lurker here, but i do have the steeda ( race ) cowl hood on my 07 vistablue GT.

The hood looks great, but be prepared for some difficulties if you decide to install one.

First of all paint work, find someone who knows how to prep and paint fiberglass well, my hood came with some pits and such that required filling, and the vista blue paint showed every single flaw.

Hood flex, as mentioned above if you do not provide support and use hood pins, this hood will flop about like a jello cake above 35mph, at highway speeds it sucks such tremendous amounts of air in, that it will balloon up if you don't pin it down.facing embarassing amounts of flex, even with hood pins in the front, i fabricated some stands out of threaded rod and rubber stoppers to provide some support on the bottom. i attached these rods to the strut towers so the middle of the hood was braced against them when it was held down by the hood pins, with this setup the hood is rock solid even at triple digit speeds.

Fitment, with some finesse the hood will fit well, with the force i have to pin mine down at, you can see a bowed in area at the hood pins. the gap between the hood and the body panels is a bit more than i would truely like, and the front lip of the hood doesn't match the stock one exactly, overall a pretty good fit, but not perfect.

overall i think it's a great hood, and im truely disappointed Steeda didn't address the previous posters problems. if you want to see some pics of the standoffs i made , i'll try to post them here, or if you need some, i can make ya some out of leftover materials.

as far as drawing air into the engine bay, i can't say for certain how much it does, but a poor little bird did go thru the cowl rather than bouncing over my windshield once [:-]

Yea, me too! Glad I read this post! I'll look towards Cervini's 2.5 inch cowell now.

I'm glad I read this thread. I was thinking on getting a hood from them. It sucks that Steeda didn't help the few who had problems with it seeing I have had nothing but great customer support from Steeda.
