Default Spydershaft install question.

For those of you that installed the spidershaft, did you lose any differential fluid during the install? If so, how much?

I'm about to order a spydershaft and was wondering if I should buy a bottle of differential fluid before I install. Thanks.

Have the new flange ready & put it right on & you won't lose enough to put back. I bet I had a spot about the size of a half dollar on floor when I was done. It won't come pouring out cause it has to get through the 2 pinion bearings & the oil slinger & the oil level is barely over the conter of housing when it is full. Not like it is filled to the top & has some pressure behind it. You are gonna love the car with the new Spyder shaft.

I lost over a quart.... Im the lucky guy who's stock flange would not come off so I had to slowly use a gear puller. Yes, over a quart or maybe a quart, around there. Remember, the rear is jacked up considerably during the procedure so the angle makes for a lot more to come out then normal, if you get stuck in the process.

If your flange comes right off then it shouldn't be too hard to lose very little...

I didn't lose a drop. Though I have Redline Heavy Shockproof gear oil in there so the stuff is like molasses.

drbob how long have you been using shockproof? I have a stock differential, not sure if yours is altered beyond gears. But yeah, I sort of want heavier gear lube for a piece of mind but could it be bad in any way for a regular n/a powered car?

I've been using it a little over a year now. The only downside I can see is possibly a little worse gas mileage, but I didn't really notice. The stuff is blood red and quite thick. It will reduce any gear noise you may have too.

I lifted the front & back, I can see losing more fluid if you only lift rear. I couldn't imagine torqueing the front bolts without raising the front, you'd need a very short torque wrench. I picked up a set of three 2 jaw pullers at harbor freight real cheap. The largest make quick work of puling the rear flange. I also used an air gun on the puller which is nice.

I lost minimal amount as well. I switched to synthetic royal purple gear oil. less friction than the standard gear oil and it is also thinner, no noise or whine.
