Default Crack the block?

Got a quick question before I possibly make a big mistake. Will it harm the engine or crack the block if I spray a little bit of water over it to cool it down a bit before I work on it, or does rapid cooling like that not effect aluminum? Thanks.

I wouldn’t do it! For sure you can crack the exhaust manifolds.

rapid cooling on any metal could cause warping. Good example is when you hop out of your car after driving for a while, spray the hot brake rotors with cold water. You will probably start getting a wobble when you brake. That's a warped rotor.

If you need to rapidly cool the engine, leave the hood open and point a fan at it.

Working on a hot engine or just spraying it with water to cool it down? Both are whack.

If in doubt, read the owner's manual. Its all in there about spraying water on the engine and when, where or where not.
