Default RE: reliability with new cams?

I have cams installed and am not impressed with them. i still run the same times have worse 60' but pull harder on the top end. seems to have a flat spot after launch and then comes on strong. If we dont get it tuned to where it pulls strong all the way through I will be pulling them out. Id rather have quicker ets than more mph.

i have the 95mm wms cai and an sct tune. i have mac axlebacks aswell, the only thing i would need before cams would be hedders and they arent mandatory are they?

Well, mandatory, no. But, highly recommended, yes. Because the cams (and don't forget the springs) aren't inexpensive, you want to get the most out of them.

This is where the discussion turns to the "sum of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts." By themselves, cams are worth X and headers are worth Y. But, the headers and cams together are worth more than X+Y...it's kinda like 1+2=4. Headers are a mod that greatly benefit the higher RPM range. Conversely, the stock manifolds, while good in the lower range, get restrictive at higher rpm's. Cams generally benefit the higher range and provide modest if any benefit down low. So why add an expensive mod like cams if you're just going to choke them off with the stock manifolds?

So, while not mandatory, I wouldn't bother with cams if I wasn't also installing headers. That being said, it won't really hurt to do cams without headers if the budget won't allow it, you just won't see the full benefit of the cams until you do.
