Default Troubles in paradise.

Well, I've been having this horrible rattling in the rear of the car since I took my SLP Loudmouths and put the stock exhaust on. It was only a temporary thing because I was getting my flowmasters put on a couple days later. The sound is like something vibrating into the body of the car and it sounds horrible, and after the flowmasters the sound didn't go away.

I had some service done down in Florida when I drove down here, basic stuff... and really liked their service. Decided to see if they'd remedy the situation and immediately seeing the flowmasters they blamed it on the exhaust. So they want to charge me the non-warranty rate to diagnose the noise properly.

I feel this is going to get ugly already, and tried explaining that it was like that with the stock mufflers but obviously they've probably heard all the stories... Just feel like venting because I've been under there, smacked a few things around and couldn't get the thing to make any noise... The exhaust seemed solid... blah.

It only started happening after you changed the exhaust? It's touching the frame some place whilst running, simple. If you're worried about Dealership costs drop into a local Midas or whatever and let them look at it. What could it cost? $25 for a re-hang?

Or the clamps are loose (not torqued down til you get a hernia) on some portion of the system.

I had the same problem, after I putthe Pypeskit on my 6er.(Sounds like a metalic clanking/grinding?). My dad and I looked at it last night and just stuffed some cardboard pieces inbetween the hangers and the actual pipe and I didn't hear the sound on the way to school this morning. Not sure how long this solution will last, but it seems to be working for now.

Be sure to post up the pics when your car goes up in flames. JK

Now seriously stuffing cardboard pieces next to your exhaust pipe doesn't sound very safe. Cardboard is very flammable. Exhaust piping gets extremely hot. The math is pretty easy here, your a fire waiting to happen. I'd get the cardboard out of there and fix the hangers, or take it to a muffler shop and have them do it.

Did you soak the cardboard in gas first? That might accelerate the fire Only kidding, but get the cardboard out ASAP.

I had a rattle like that after I put my GT take off on, and I found out it was a loost hanger bolt. I re-tightened it and it hasn't rattled since.

I have a fix for you. You can buy my Pypes off road H-pipe, and you won't be able to hear the rattle if it's still there. I installed it yesterday, and I'm taking it off today. Too loud with my stingers for my daily driver. It does sound really good though. I'll give you a deal.
