Default Zex Nitrous Kit

Anyone run a zex nitrous kit on your car? How do you like it? Any issues?

I have had mine on my car for 18 months. The only issue I had was keeping an electrical connection from coming loose. It wasn't ZEX's fault, it was the installer's fault. Which was me. I eventually fixed it and everything was good. I had mine plugged into a JLT2 and used an SCT tuner to remove timing as needed. I ran only the 75 shot and rarely used it. With the above combination, DR's and 4.10 I ran my time below. I could probably squeeze another little bit out of it but it will never happen with the ZEX. I removed it tonight (for the last time)along with my CAI to get some warrunty work done in the AM. Next week I drop off my car for a turbo so I won't need the ZEX anymore.

N2O= cheap, easy fun. Buy a kit and don't look back.

Simon,
Thanks for your reply. You said you had to pull timing as needed. I thought with the 75 shot you could leave all alone? Who's tune were you running?

I am currently running a 125 shot from ZEX, soon to be 150 shot after i do some more dyno time and possibly upgrade my fuel system. All in all though it is great.

Some suggestions though: Do NOT buy JUST the kit. The $600 kit that ZEX sells is bare bones, there are some other critical things that are needed to run a safe, effective set up, such as Bottle heater, nitrous pressure gauge, and a wideband to name a few.

Also i HIGHLY reccomend a dyno tune. People will tell you this is not needed, but you are flirting with danger if you are just going to slap this stuff on.

Also saying nitrous is cheap is a myth. I currently spent $3,200 and counting on my nitrous set-up, not including refills. Ive gone through roughly 25 bottles ar $32 a piece which comes out to over $700 of nitrous.

But if done right, installed right, and tuned right you cannot go wrong. With my 125 shot i have no problems whooping most other f/i stangs. Nitrous puts out more torque than a supercharger/turbo, and pretty much the same hp numbers. Of course nitrous is not always there like the other two, but with an electric bottle opener it doesnt matter :-).

Currently my best time on the 125 shot is an 11.7. 06tyrefryer on here ran an 11.4 i believe, maybe faster im not sure, with his 125 shot.

Goodluck, but dont be cheap with it.

Running Zex here to. Started off with a 75 shot, but to be quite honest, was unimpressed--you could tell a difference, but not what you would expect. After moving to a 100 shot, the feel is completely different. I agree with ohsixgt1217. Don't buy just the base kit, but get the racers kit too(includes purge, bottle gauge, heater, blow down tube--which is the only thing from the kit i'm not using). Then you'll want to get a nice mounting switch assembly for a clean look.

They say with a 75 shot, everything from the factory is good to go.
With 100 shot+ you'll need tuning to remove timing & HT0 plugs.
With 125/150+, you'll need the above plus a larger fuel source(gt 500 pumps, rails if you want, etc)

My uddy is running 175 shot in his and dyno'd around 470 rwhp and 495 tq. What a feeling. It runs o.k. on his and he didnt change any pumps or rails, etc. He may have just gotten lucky.

Sprayin a 175 shot, I would expect way more tq than that. Mine is right at 375 hp & 450 tq on a 100 shot.

I have had no problems with my zex 100 shot. My car is currently at hte tuner, setting it up for my 150 shot.
I agree with extras. I have the window switch, heater, purge, blow down tube and bottle opener.
Have fun.
