Instead of the cams why not go forged bottom end and stroke / bore it out. That what you will get more power and prep the car to handle boost when your ready.

Supporting mods are def needed when looking at cams -- You'll enjoy the LT's until you get the cam

Isn't it about 2 Grands for a cam job anyway? Way to much hard earned cash for 30 freaking horses IMO.
I'd say wait and boost the damn thing when he's ready.

I'm doing this right now with my Stang... Since I already spent a lot in it, I've got to start from scrach for a Vortech budget.
I'm putting pennies away until it hits that magic number. Most likely in the Spring.

A cam job is far from cheap considering you'll need the cams -- springs are another $300 bucks... then you have install which will be pretty pricy not to mention tuning when you get done. If you're a mod freak though and all tapped out on mods that you'll suck it up... look into the black hole of endless money that we put into these stangs... and get the cams. I will be getting cams some time here in the near future[&:] -- this black hole sure is deep

cams gave me the least amount of gain of any mod in the 1/4 going na. what I gained on the top end I lost just as much in my first 60',but it works well with nos. maybe if I had a standard it would be a better choice but to gain my 60' back I need to pull my converter and send it in to have it loosened up another 500 rpms, or I may just sell my cams and put the stock ones back in. +1 on the supporting mods first

06tyrfryr -- least gain with the cam!?! I would have thought cams would help you in 1/4... maybe you just launched wrong the first few times... I dunno... weird to me. I guess having a standard might make a differance. Good luck on getting that 60 back to where it needs to be... tell us how you do after the converter is loosened.

Pm sent BTW

I have comp stage IIIs. You lose bottom end torque and your 60 foots and 1/8 mile timebecomes a struggle. I've cut a 1.6 60 foot, and went through the traps at 109mph, but only pulled a 13.05 out of it because the car is dead the first half ofthe track. Do the math and the ET should be 12.6. But those cams come screaming in the top end. If you keep the revs up it's a brutal street machine. We're working out a shifter problem and working on a retune to see if we can get some lost torque. The goal is low 12s with the a few bolt ons and the cams.

Cams in these engines, unless you go with ported heads as well, should be thought of as precursors to forced injection. I'm eventually going nitrous, so the expense vs performances (about 25 horses/-9 torque and 2/10s in the quarter) was worth it. I may get the ported heads as well, depending on the size of the holiday bonus this year...nitrous goes in next spring.

I have the BBR cams in my car, install with a custom dyno tune was $1100. Car is a beast on the freeway but it does lag a lil down low. Good investment if you have plans for f/i monster. My plans have come to a stall since buying a house [:@]
