Default hood strut question

I installed Steeda hood struts yesterday. Look good, function great. My concern is that this kit (along with similar struts from CDC and MRT) re-use the 10 mm bolts to attach the struts to the hood hinges and fender wall. Has anyone had a problem with the bolts breaking off under the added stress of supporting the struts? Should I be looking for upgraded 10 mm bolts or will the factory bolts hold up?

I installed a set from SHR a few weeks back and never gave it a thought. However, I don't think you'll have an issue with that size bolt and that configuration and load. I wouldn't worry, I'm not.

I have MRT hood struts as well, so I'd like to know if this is an issue as well. Until someone speaks up about a broken fastener, my concern is minimal. My personal experience has proven that threads of the hole are the weakest link, and not the bolt itself.

You should be fine -- if you needed the bolts then more then likely they would have came with the kit

Thanks for the replies. Just wanted to see if anyone had a bolt snap under the load or not. Guess I'll stick with the factory bolts, but I am going to put lock washers onthem. Mine are twisting slightly (the ones that attach to fender)and I'm afraid to torque them down too much. I did a search on hood struts on this forum and someone else had metioned their fender attachments were twisting and that lock washers did the trick.

Were they easy to install? I do all my own stuff, stripes, shaker, etc... So it wouldnt be an issue, but I dont have much time so the ease of installation may decide whether or not I get them.

they were easy enough to install by myself, but if I had to do it again I would have someone there to help hold the hood in place when bolting the hood hinges back on. MRT has a pictorial how-to on their website for their hood struts. The Steeda and CDC ones go on same way. Check out the website and judge for yourself how easy you think it would be. Judging from the stuff you did to your car, don't think you'll have any problems whatsoever.
