Ok...heres the deal....when I bought my GT the invoice sheet said I have 3.31 gears....BUT last night I was under the car...taking the mufflers off (in preparation for putting on my Corsa's) and when I looked at the rear end, it had a 3.55 sticker on it[&:].

I always thought I might have had the 3.55's cuz I NEVER get the mpg that I hear people on here getting with the 3.31's...but now this makes me think even more that the Stealership made a mistake and gave me 3.55's instead. I'm definitely NOT complaining if they did...lol

What say you? What do you guys (and gals) think?

 

It appears the factory installed the incorrect rear as I understand to save time the 3.55's were installed as a complete assembly rather than swap out the gears. I guess they were late for lunch.

 

All 2006 manual GT's came with the 3.55.

2005-2008 Automatics, 3.31 standard.
2005-2006 Manuals, 3.55 standard.
2007-2008 Manuals, 3.31 standard, 3.55 optional.

I can get around 19-20mpg in the city and 26-27mpg on the highway easily, and I have 3.55s.

 

lol... I hope... I didn't order my GT... I bought one off the lot... Honestly... I didn't do enough research on the GT before I bought, b/c I didn't even think to mention that I wanted 3.55's, so that wasn't even a selling point for me.

I wanted a Black GT manual.... everything else was negotiable... I don't know why they messed up... but I'm happy they did.

And the window sticker said 3.31.
Maybe you got a 5.4L V8 instead of the 4.6L
by mistake also. Wonder what else is not
as the sticker said it was. Was the price correct?

I'd check the sticker again. It may have said 3.31 gears under standard equipment and 3.55s under the list of optional equipment. Just an idea, that's how mine was listed. Regardless, good deal for you...

Yeah I have to dig in my drawer of papers... But I do feel a lot better now... I always wondered how guys were getting 27mpg and I'm getting 23-24 on highway cruise at 70-75. It makes a lot of sense

 

next time when you are under the car spin your driveshaft after you have made a mark on the tire. If the tires spin over 3.5 times for one revolution of the driveshaft then yes you had 3.55, if it spins less then 3.5 times then you don't have 3.55's
