OK GOT A DUMBA$$ Question/underdrive pulley system
Ok just to lay it out there I don't know the first thing about modifying an engine. I am like the tree house builder trying to become a NASA Engineer!! I see all kinds of Acronyms being used and it makes me feel at home cause the Army has an Acronym for everything! But I have been reading the threads about the underdrive pulley systems...I don't know if I got that right if it is a driveshaft camshaft or what? I am trying to figure out with my car that I don't even have until April of 08 what does a new underdrive pulley system do for your vehicle and the benefits/recommendations for an 08 GT Premium...Car will be an automatic/ again have no idea if that makes a difference or not. I am more of the exterior upgrade and when it comes to the engine I can change the oil real good by myself and take out an airfilter. But pulley systems??? [sm=imsorry.gif]I don't know...SIDE NOTE: Just want to say that this site has been AWESOME...everytime I am stressed out or feel like I can't handle my Job...I can come on this site and my stress from this deployment seems to really melt away and I can enjoy what I love most and that is of course everything to do with Mustangs. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
"under drive pulley system" is not a drive shaft or a camshaft they are pulleys here is a pic http://www.brenspeed.com/mustang_200...es/5553305.gif
Underdrive pulleys just replace the stock crank pulley, and some accessory pullies like the water pump with pullies of a different size. This causes the accessories to spin at a slower speed or "underdrive", therefore freeing up some power from the engine by allowing the crank to spin more freely.

COOL!!! Treehouse builder upgrade +1 [sm=smiley20.gif]Ok ...underdrive pulleys slow down accessory speed byreducing parasitic acccessory drag on the engine. So from what I understand it reduces or slows downthe alternator, water pump, power steering, A/C, etc which then frees up more horsepower for your vehicle. But how do you install that? And which brand should I go for?
That's correct.
It has no downsides, your accesories will still work fine as I've been told.
The most common brand is Steeda http://www.brenspeed.com/mustang_2005/pullytiming.html
The install should be easy https://mustangforums.com/m_3296654/tm.htm

UDP's are an inexpensive mod, that in conjunction with other bolt-on mods, will give you an advantage over an otherwise stock Mustang. It is the general contention, on this site, that a CAI system, and Custom Tune should be the first order of business, when modding you car for improved performance. Dont do it if you wanna plan on getting a supercharger in the future, heard its a nono.

As far as installation, it's fairly straightforward. You're just replacing a few pullies. The hardest part is getting the crank pulley bolts busted loose so you can remove it. They're cranked on there pretty good. You'll probably need an impact socket for that. Other than that, you should be able to do everything with just basic hand tools.
