Default Winter Storage

Getting close to laying the old girl up for the Winter. Changed the Oil and will top up the Gas tank fully prior to pulling the dust cover over it.

Do you guys who Winter store their vehicles recommend use of a fuel stabiliser? I'm thinking it'll be off the road for like 5months.

You don't take it out even on a dry sunny winter day?
To your question, I'd put some stabilizer since I'm sure you have a tune.

You will need to move it some so the tires don't get a flat spot or put it up on jacks. I drive mind during the winter, just not on bad weather days.

The problem isn't driving it in the wet, it's the Salt on the roads the Cretins still insist on using [:@]

What has a tune got to do with the fuel stabiliser ?

Absolutely use fuel stabilizer. Gasoline will start to break down in just a couple months and that can cause problems with injectors and valves among other things.

Although todays fuels don't break down as fast as in previous years, a stabilizer won't hurt. Also, place a piece of wood or carpet under the tires if you're not jacking the car off the floor. Contact with the concrete in the garage in one spot over time will dry rot rubber.

I see you are in Canada and understand the salt.

You still have salt when it's dry?

Stabilisers have none to do with a tune but good gas does.
Anyway, I figured that a tune is more sensitive to the octane and quality of fuel in general than the OEM set-up. So after 5 months, your fuel might degrade enough, for the car to runfunny.
It's pure speculations on my part though.

My step-dad is putting his vette in storage soon at an actual storage place. Garage isn't big enough to keep it there.

With your 20's on the car Marcus I had no problems last year with flat spots because they are so wide and tall. I stored the car for 6 months and DO put fuel stabilizer in a full tank of gas...if you dont you might regret it. Dont jack the car up (not necessary-esp with all the aftermarket suspension mods). If you dont have a good coat of epoxy on the garage floor I would put down a moisture barrier at least 8 mils thick to prevent surface rusting of the undercarriage of the car. The car should block the exhaust tips so rodents dont get into the exhaust. I had no problem with anything rusting (all the chrome I have) because in general the winter has less humidity than the spring and summer. Hope it helps J

Oh- I have a battery tender on the battery at all times and unhook it when I start the car and let it idle for at least 30 minutes once a month. I leave the hood unlatched during the winter to prevent shock to the hood and paint (aftermarket hood) when opening and closing all the time. Lastly, DO NOT engage the parking brake as it will stick until it is thawed (many post on that one)
