Has anyone thought about relocating the TPMS Sensors to the spare tire? Any idea if that would work? I don't drive my car every day and I hate the fact that I will have to spend an extra $70 for those bands.

I've been running with aftermarket rims for about a month now, no low pressure sensors in. The sensors are sitting in my garage...inside the old wheels. Funny thing, in 4 weeks of operation the low pressure alarm has only gone off maybe 5 times. I'm curious exactly how those sensors work. I'm guessing that by the car sitting next to the sensors in the garage...you get the picture. Even if I leave for a couple hours the warning rarely goes off. Weird. I've heard others suggest you use a PVC pipe, put the 4 sensors in it, seal it and put it under 40 lbs of pressure, then throw it in the trunk. Off course that would mean I'd have to get a shop to take them out of the old wheels. Right now I'm just going to live with the occasional warning and wait until the next time I need tires.

If the tube don,t work live with the light. I did new sensors streps and all, it is a lot of waisted $$$$.

Is the warning just a light? What will it harm if you leave it on?

I don't see myself shelling out $200+ just to turn off a light.

Its just a warning light. Nothing else.
Do the PVC tube trick and the spare
will still be usable.

Thank you.

Took me a minute to figure out how you meant the "spare" comment. Getting older isn't always a benefit.

I ordered my rims/tires/new tpms sensors thru anonline dist and my original tpms are still in the old ones in case they ever need to be remounted (wreck, etc).

The light comes on my dash at least once a day. Annoying as hell, but I've been living with it, just hitting the reset button on the dash.

You can go to the dealership where they use an expensive tool to "recalibrate" the different sensors to your car. Something about going around each tire with this device and "linking" them to your car. I just work too freakin much to get over there to have it done. I will soon because it's getting really old hitting that button every time the light comes on.

I guess there are sacrifices that go along with every "advance"; all the song-and-dance routines involved in programming ignition keys may be worth the trouble if they actually reduce thefts, but do they? Mr Ford will not likely tell.

" ... just hitting the reset button on the dash ... " Does that come with the full-display option? My lowly V6 Premium doesn't seem to have one, and I've not been able to find any reference in the Owner's Guides. Or maybe you're pulling my leg?

Thanks for the information. That "linking" thing is the kind of revelation that makes these groups so valuable.

For the guy saying he is getting new rims in a few weeks, you should just tell them to put the old sensors on the new tires. Make sure you tell the people putting on the new rims that you want it done. I was ata shop that offered to break down the old tires, get me new bands and put the sensors on the new wheels for $80. He said he does this for free when people buy new rims from him. Unfortuanatly I got mine new 20's at another place and didn't know it had to be done. Had I known, i would have had them do it.

Ya the tube thing works and so does putting them in the spare works as well. But if your new wheels haven't been put together yet might as well have the sensors put on. Also with 20's and low profiles, it is hard to tell if a tire is low. I just realized I have been driving around with nail in one. The sensors could be of some use sometimes.

Also, the sensors dont need to be recalibrated. Only if they are brand new sensors. Just use the old ones.
