Default 3M Tape Question

Can anyone tell me a) which is the correct 3M tape product and b) where can I get it? OR c) do I really need the tape at all?

I need to replace the 3M tape that originally came with a GT spoiler. I got a takeoff from someone on the forum, but will need to replace the tape that's on there as it took a pretty good beating when he removed it from his car.

I was at the dealership today getting a TSB fix done and when I asked the Parts guy if they sold the 3M stuff, he kinda looked at me as if I was from another planet. It's then that I figured I needed to turn to the true experts - all of you!

Thanks in advance!!!

All of my local auto parts stores carry 3M tapes, solvents and other supplies for surface prep and installation. Specifically, though, I couldn't tell you which tape suits your application.

+1. I know they carry it at AutoZone for sure. Think it's called 3M trim tape, but I'm at work and don't have it front of me. Usually in the same section as the auto paint and sanding supplies.

Try J Golcher Auto Adhesive Supply in Hialeah - carries all 3M products and great service.

What TSB were you having fixed?

Good luck

Just note that there are different levels/grades of strength of the 3M tape. I was talking to a manager of a high end body shop recently and I think he said 3M doesn't publicly sell the strength of tape that the auto manufacturers use (which will hold for decades). I'm assuming, though, that they body shops get the full-strength stuff.

Might be worth asking a local body shop before you mount the wing.

The 3M tape at autozone is the same stuff they ship with the cervini's ducktails and Xenon products. I use the 3M adhesive spray on top of the tape and it seems to work awesome.
