What does the pony dot matrix do, located on the windshield near the rear view mirror?

Its just a look for the windshield. It doesnt surve a purpose.

 

But.. I don't even notice it from the outside, only when I look up at the mirror. It does keep the sun out of my eyes though. I figured that was it's purpose! If, no WHEN I have to replace my windshield (stones always get me) I won't have it anymore.

 

If you still have youre warranty, you can get the glass from FOrd. Im not sure how it works from a aftermarket glass company
