Default Traction Control newbie

07 v6 - There is a light on the dash that looks like an underinflated tire with an exclamation point in the middle. It's always lit up.Is that thetraction control light? I don't have a traction control button and there is nothing keeping me from lighting up the tires by just mashing on the skinny pedal. What's going on here? thanks.

Welcome to the world of TPMS. That light is the indicator that your tire pressure is low. Check your pressure on your tires; if you're at the recommended PSI (which I think is 36 PSI; I don't remember what it is off the top of my head) the light should go off. If you're at recommended PSI and the light is still on, take the car in to the dealer and have them check it out - you might have a faulty sensor that should be covered under warranty.

the first question I'd ask you is:
Do you have aftermarket rims on the car? That's gonna cause it 90% of the time.
In fact has anyone ever had the TPMS light come on and found that their tire (tires) was low?

I'm still trying to figure out how the government mandate of vehicles being required to have TPMS is going to be a good thing...Most people who have flat tires don't do anything to fix them. These are the same people who see the "Check Engine" light come on, and go, "Oh...Well, that doesn't apply to me." TPMS isn't going to affect them, so what good is it?

In the Mustang, no, but in my Xterra I've had the low tire pressure light come on twice. Actually, at least in the case of the Xterra, it's quite nice because it's sensitive enough to make sure you keep your tires properly inflated, but not so sensitive that it goes off with the slightest change in temperature.
