Default Side Air Bag Question

Gang -

I've got an '05 GT that did not come with side air bags. I'd like to buy airbag seats and install them. Does anyone know if the airbag seats will plug into the non-airbag harness and actually work, or do the non-side-airbag cars need a different harness (or are missing the side impact sensors entirely)? Is there a Ford tech site that might help?

I'm not going to say it's impossible, but it's not, in any way cost effective. You would need to purchase the seats, harness, air bags, seat covers, module, impact sensors, and then you will need to have the dealership do all the programming to make everything work together.

You would be better off trading yours in and purchasing one with side airbags.

+1 -- airbags aren't cheap what so ever

The wire harness for the side air bags is NOT on the normal wire harness. It is it's own plug/harness, and it is Yellow in color. The 08 come with them even if the seat does not have the side air bags.

Also +1 on the crash sensors, where ever they are. You would also need the side airbag and a new seat back cover. Hell the seat back cover along is not cheap. Air bags are big $$$$ part item.

Eh, thanks guys (and gals?),

I wuz dreamin' that I could just plug 'em in and they'd work. I had a Ford Probe at one time, and I added rear wipers easily - the non-wiper harness had all the plugs built right in.

Hey: second question, tho I should probably move this one: I have seen listings from upholstery co's saying that they make a different pattern for the cloth interior Mustangs than the leather-equipped Mustangs. however, I also see people (even here) who say they bought factory "take-off" leather and had it installed on their "originally cloth" seats. Is there a diff between the construction of the cloth seats and the leather seats? (and I'm not talkin' airbag vs. non-airbag - just cloth vs. leather.)

I have a friend who has an 05 with cloth. She bought aftermarket Leather for her car and installed. Even came with the leather for the back seats. She couldn't be happier. She loves them. She had a "fun" time installing them. But she is a girl and if she could do it......... But really she is good at this stuff, she has a FOX too that she is working on making a track car. The girl has got talent.

Thanks, Leoleo:

Problem is: that's the aftermarket leather that IS made for the original cloth seats. I'm wondering if people have problems putting the factory "take-off leather" on the orig cloth seats. I think I might jump over to an interior forum and post that Q. Thanks!
