Does anyone else feel a "thumping" in the shifter at mid-high loads around 2000-3500 rpm? Is this just the exhaust pulse I'm feeling or is something wrong? It just doesn't seem right. At lower loads and also at higher rpm's I don't feel it so much, but it feels like a rubber mallet is thumping the shifter from underneath.
Could be, I'll take a look, but it's more rythmic, increasing with rpm. Also follows the pulsing sound of the exhaust. Could an exhaust leak cause this? I also get a strong exhaust-like smell in the cabin after getting on it and letting off. I only smell it after releasing the throttle after gunning it. It doesn't smell like "rotten eggs" but it's definately an exhaust smell. The only thing is, I've been under the car many times since smelling this, and haven't seen/heard anything. There's no black soot around the clamps. The only other thing I could think is a header leak, but I haven't had time to check ALL of the header bolts yet, just the ones that are more accessible without tearing into it.
i have a V6 but I have the same rhythmic pulsing of the shifter at midloads especially in 2nd and 3rd. I'm glad someone else has this, I thought it may have been the mgw shifter since I don't remember if I had it before I put the mgw in.
I've felt the same thing ever since I installed the Hurst STS - a rhythmic thumping on the shifter in 2nd and 3rd between 2500-3500 rpms. Think it's just a feature of the vehicle.
