SCT powerup msg timeout

just got a SCT tuner Xcal2 and when starting it up it gives me a "powerup msg. timeout" whats this mean?

no one else have this problem? btw what do you need to connect the Xcal2 to your computer, is it a special wire you need? im pretty bad with comps
