Default Shifter thread size???

I installed a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter today, and I find out that my stock shift **** won't work with it even though Steeda claims it will. The tri-ax threads are too coarse for my stock shift ****. My **** is the aluminum one in the 2007 GT appearance package. Anyone know what size threads the tri-ax has? Not sure how to measure that. Is the GT appearance **** threaded finer than a regular stock **** or is Steeda off its rocker?

BTW, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE TRI-AX! BEST SHIFTER EVER. SO SMOOTH! NOT FLOPPY OR RATTLY, BUT NOT TOO STIFF EITHER. BLOWS HURST OUT OF THE WATER!!!

got my Steeda catalog in front of me. The product description for the Tri-Ax doesn't mention thread size for shifter, but right below that is the product description for their billet shifter *****. They offer one for the Tri-Ax and one for "factory shifter", which would seem to confirm what you already found out - they're not threaded the same! Guess that's one way to get you to buy another product from them. Glad you like it though - I've read all your posts about the troubles you had with the Hurst.

If memory serves, Steeda screwed up the threads (no pun intended) early on in the Tri-Ax's production for S197's and put the thread pitch for SN95 ***** on there. The stock S197 shift **** uses M12x1.25 threads, SN95 stock ***** use M12x1.75.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I want a shifter ball, but I was considering ordering one of those long chrome shifter sticks with white ball from Jegs, and cutting it to length and drilling holes to fit my tri-ax. That way I'd have a quality shifter and the old school look. If I take the easy way out, I'll get just a shifter ball, but the problem is none of the descriptions of the ***** I've seen states anything about a shift boot retainer or a spacer so that the ball is not right next to the leather boot. I want a little bit of space between the two. Do you guys have any info on shifter ***** and what they actually come with? Thanks again.

I can custom make you a spacer for the leather boot.
The Shelby ball in MossMustangs catalog shows a similar spacer.
The descriptions on shifter ***** is lacking everywhere I see
them for sale. Its a hit or miss at the best as to whats actually included.

Actually I have just placed an order for this one in black. http://www.shop.hms-store.com/produc...;categoryId=22
I ordered the one for the 79-04 model Mustang, so it should fit my tri-ax handle.
