VORTECH Supercharger Installed / Pics!!!!
Wow, that's a great price. I was thinking 6k for my parts + install. Pardon my ignorance but what is the benefit of the intercooler? I mean, I know that it cools the intake charge and makes more power, but when you're already putting 400+ to the ground, why bother? Does it also help with detonation, prolong engine life, etc?

higher boost would increase the likely hood of detonation as your intake temps go up... I'm sure Brent tuned it in such a manner that you don't have to be concerned... the HO kit allows higher boost (10.2 on mine max boost) as the IAT are lower... but boost is not the only factor in detonation.... if its really hot out (air temps) or you get a bad tank of go go juice....then u can have an issue.... the computers in these cars do a fairly good job of backing off the timing from what I've read to avoid trouble.....
I think it largely depends on the tune. As long as you keep your A/F in check, those powdered metal rods or cast pistons will be the first to go. I've heard that <450 hp is the safe level for engine longevity and you're about there now. Personally, that is where I'm looking to be when I get setup.
Though I did hear a story about a guy pushing 600+rwhp with the stock bottom end. The car lasted for two seasons before he missed a shift and sent it thru the traps at7500rpm. Threw a rod in the process, but it was amazing how long that stock block lasted.

Question for you if you don't mind. Why Vortech over say Saleen that I know Breensped promotes? For a weekend cruiser and cruising around town is the Vortech a better style SC? I was thinking KB untill the Brenspeed guys reccomended the Saleen SC. All I want is a SC that will give me Awesome Power BUT with no problems.
ALSO will the stock clutch have to be changed apon installation of the new SC?
Thanks.

I was also dead set on a Saleen w/475 kit so I could retain my C&L Racer intake, but I also like the Vortech's for a centri. And you get that cool centri s/c sound.
For the price he quoted, I'm really starting to consider the centri. I also think you stay out of boost more for street driving with the centri which is probably a good thing.
