Default 11 CAI Comparisons…Interesting

Here is a table I created from a 5.0 MUSTANG & SUPER FORDS article that is also on their web site (I wasn’t able to determine the date). The average increase of the 11 CAI’s without a tune was +22.8 hp and +18.6 lb/ft. The JLT true Cold Air Intake’s +27.9 HP and +21.4 lb/ft was one of the least expensive and produced the most gain. There were also a few that they tested with a tune and also the simple K&N drop-in replacement. They also added a subjective rating on Ease of Installation, Looks, etc.

Enjoy

I know of the one you ar talking about.
I went with the C&L racer and custom dyno tune gained almost 35 at the wheels.

I wish I would have gotten a C&L Racer instead of the Street version.[&o][:@]

When was that article written? I can't find a date on it.

I wonder if those results would respectively carry over to the V6 as far as how well they performed, anybody know that?

My guess is that it was written/tested mid 2005. The artical starts off talking about the '05 Mustang and later in the MMR write-up it has "This is another solid '05 Mustand cold-air that makes good power"....couldn't find an actual date though. Hope that helps.

I'm very happy with the racer kit leaves so much more room for the upgrades i have in mind for down the road.

a few things here:

1) very old article written over 2 years ago so there are many CAIs that have been introduced since then. The C&L Racer and Steeda are not on there but produce gains like the C&L street and JLT
2) There 22.8 average includes the CAIs in which the also ran the tunes (ie JLT and C&L)
3) i still would never run a CAI without a tune....even they they report almost 25 HP without a tune i have never seen anyone actually reporting that and the a/f would have to be very very lean to get that much without changing the factory tune.

It is a good article but realistically you should always get tune with any CAI, a no tune CAI might get you 15 HP but the TUNE will make a huge difference

Nice post, like the statements earlier there have been many produced since and the tuners are better now.
