Mechanical question.
What is the root cause of this? When shifting from first to second (after getting on it in first pretty good)I get a quick grind sound before it engages. The sound and feel like someone who can't find second gear. The clutch is all the way to the floor. This never happens at low rpms. And second gear eventually engages it just takes a little longer. It's only first to second. Clutch? Shifter? Tranny?
I always thought the difficulty with high speed 1-2 shifts was due to the remote location of the shifter. Under the conditions you describe, the transmission torque changes its (the tranny's) position relative to the shifter/shifter linkage, which is mounted to the car itself and can't move. This makes the shift "off" a bit. (Or maybe I'm the one that's "off" here). Anyway, like Matt mentioned, the Torq limiters and brace have been known to help this.

Since this just poped up - did you make any changes recently, like adding the CAI or UDP? How many miles on the car? Its possible that with use the motor mounts are wearing a bit and allowing the motor and transmission to twist more under heavy torque than they did in the past.
The CHE brace and torque limiters act to resist the trany from twisting. Many have reported this improving their shifts. Another solution might be an aftermarket shifter like the Tri-Ax or MGW. The MGW in particular has a massive arm connecting the shifter to the trany that acts to limit movement and keep the shifter aligned with the trany. I personally wouldn't recommend the Hurst for your case - although a good shifter it does not have this heavy duty arm and probably wouldn't help you.

Blue, don't know why it would just start, here's some possibles:
1)new mods or wear and tear (as Argonaut mentioned)
2)more aggressive shifting (faster at higher revs) about a month ago.
Argonaut, good point about the MGW. I love my Hurst shifter, but still, good point!

Bad Syncros.
Worn Shifter Bushings.
Worn Engine Mounts.
If its simple misalignment on the 1-2 shift one thing that can help is not to try to direct the shifter.
Just pull straight back from the front of the shifter with just the fingers draped over the front of the shifter.
Basically you are just trying to reverse the pressure of a "heel of hand" 2-3 Powershift.

Thanks again for all the help.No new mods.Car just flipped 20k I would hope the motor mounts would hold up longer than that.Kind of a catch 22 now.On one hand I want to take it in and have the dealer look at it.On the other I don't want the remainder of the warrenty to be wiped out because of the mods.
If it never happens at low rpms I'd be inclined to agree with the other folks here, it's the tranny being slightly mis-aligned (been known to happen). Try the brace or mounts out first ... or if you were looking to replace the shifter, do the MGW because it has been known to help.
If those don't work, then I'd roll into the dealership. If you go to the dealer without trying the suggestions above, you are basically asking them to run your mustang hard and then try and blame it on some mods.
