Default hood liner function?

what's the function of the hood liner? does it help keep the engine cooler? what would happen if you take it out?

I believe it keeps the hood from getting too hot and discoloring the paint, but I could be wrong.

sounds like a good idea there... I doubt its to cool the engine down....its more to help insualte the hood from changes in temperatures and to cut out some of the engine noise....I personally wouldnt take it out unless you was going with fiberlass hood or something like that

I've been running without my hood liner since September, but be warned the paint isn't spectacular under the liner.

any pics? and i'm assuming the heat doesnt affect the outside of the hood's paint. i remember seeing this mustang i think a foxbody or new edge w/out the liner and he did repaint it and looked really nice. i wonder if i take it off and repaint, u think the heat of the engine will ruin the paint on the inside?

On most cars the hood liner is more for noise reduction than it is for protection of the paint on the hood. Many cars do not have a hood liner. It should not hurt to remove it.
