Easy "DO" it yourslef mods
Rims has already been covered. However what hasn't been is increasing the overal diameter of the tire/rim.
I'm upgrading to 18x9 rims 255/45-18 from my 17 rims 235/55-17.
The easy part is not so much getting them on the car - need special tools and have to swap out the tire pressure sensor. However it is easy to adjust the computer accordingly.
What you'd need to do is go to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.htmlor google tire size calculator. After you put the former and latter sizes in you note the tire revs/mile and reflash your cars computer with a tuner.
Here's my new rims (on order): http://www.americanmuscle.com/18x9-gt4-chrome-2005.htmland customer pic http://customerpics.americanmuscle.c...36&id=2568

2005 models did, Ford disabled the feature on the 2006/2007because of on going problems like waking up and findingthat your windows had rolled down on their own, one of our techs was able to reprogram my smart junction box so that it works on my 2006, but I had him disable it again because after a long day at work I walked out to my car to find my windows down, just glad it wasn't raining that day.
