Default First Mod: Exhaust

My question is, could I just buy any dual exhaust setup that's designed for a GT and have it mounted on my V6? Here's what I want to do:

Switch to a Pypes off road X and Mac mufflers setup. Would I be able to? What would I need to do? I understand that the car has a Y-pipe out of the factorywhich would need to be changed to the X first. Is that right? Is that all I would need to make these parts fit, aside from a GT rear bumper?

Any help is appeciated, thanks guys.

mid pipe (O/R X), over axle pipes, and axle back (MAC).

Although I would recommend an O/R H with the mac mufflers.
Don't know how it would sound on the 4.0 though!

That's the idea. Any recommendations for over axle pipes? I read one or two people on the forumsaying that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to have a local muffler shop do them, so is therea favorite vendor for this part?

check out pypes, i think they make over axles. If all of this gets too expensive you can try finding a catback system like the borla stingers and i think magnaflow magnapacks have a catback too. This way you get the mufflers and over axle systems. Not sure how it would sound on the 4.0 though, but i agree with rshamekh, go with an H pipe. It will keep the sound deeper

+1. The general opinion that I've read is that an H-pipe is the way to go with a V6. X-pipe sounds too raspy on the smaller engine and you probably won't end up with a nice rumbly sound.

Also most people seem to say that an off-road pipe sounds like crap on the 4.0. Just keep the cats on. It won't be as loud as an o/r pipe obviously, but any kind of duals are still a huge improvement over the stock V6 sound, so it's all good.

JBA sells an H-pipe with over-the-axle pipes included (you can buy this setup with or without the JBA mufflers) so that might be an option for you. I believe v6mustangstuff.com and ninosport.com both have the H-pipe kit without mufflers available.
