In Texas, you can put up to 8 characters on a vanity plate, BUT only six of them can be letters or numbers. The "official" plate number is just the letters and numbers. So when you check availablity, you enter up to six letters/numbers. Then when you order, you have the option of inserting up to two spaces, periods, dashes, or Texas symbols.

Now, there's an internet story about that last one. Supposedly someone had a vanity with NO TAG on it. Supposedly at least in that state, the officer would write NO TAG for the tag number if you don't have one. According to the story, it caused all kinds of mahem. The plate on the Fox always throws people. It's waiting to go on an MG, when I'm able to get one again (had lots of MG's in the UK).

I may get a different plate for the Fox but not sure what yet.
