Any tips to installing a new steering wheel?

There's nothing to it. Make sure the wheel is centered before you start. You release the airbag module by popping off those plastic caps on the side of the steering column and taking those bolts out. Then disconnect it and move it out of the way and you'll see only other bolt you have to take out. You'll need a steering wheel/gear puller. It will take you about five minutes to do the whole thing.

The workshop manual is very detailed about what not to do.
Like let the clock spring become unindexed. [:@]

I always turn on the headlight switch to get rid of any residual current.

I'm getting my GT500 steering wheel tomorrow and besides disabling the negative battery (duh), what else should I be aware of? I also disconnected the battery 24 hours in advance...just to be sure haha

still live even if you turn the headlights on to
"drain residual current". [:@]The system is still
armed even with the battery disconnected.
The airbag module neeeds to be disconnected
at certain points to deactivate it then be tested
once reactivated. [

You're right, I do remember in the "detailed instructions" I saw that you have to disconnect some terminals from the airbag to make it safe. From what I remember it didn't look difficult to do but they were VERY clear on things you have to do to make the airbag safe (and retest after reinstall).
I'd recommend asking someone on the forum who has the service manual on DVD (I'd have a copy myself if the last two burned copies Ireceived weren't defective) to forward you the section on removal/reinstallation. This is not something I would just do after taking somebody's word on this forum.

and post some suggestions tomorrow.
Damn. I don't want anyone getting injured but I really want to know what you think about that steering wheel when you get it installed. And if it's not too much trouble take some pics with the old one up next to (or on top of) the new so we can see the difference between the two.
I think as long as you had the battery cable disconnected and discharged the caps by running the headlights/accessories for awhile you'll be ok. A cap will hold a charge but not forever and you said you had the battery disconnected for 24 hours. With the instructions sent by (thanks mlrycc!)mlrycc you shoudn't have a problem.
If you are impressed with and like it I'll be buying one next week for myself.

No problem boys.....
From what I have read, I believe the key step in the process is assuring the proper fuse is removed from the SJB prior to messing with the drivers air bag....
Just be careful, take your time, and post pics upon completion.....
