Default Backfiring Banshee

Hey Guys, hope you all have a great holiday!

I am have a problem... My stang is an 06 GT, 5 spd! When I perform a hard launch, my stang sputters and backfires like crazy! It runs great at cruising speed (80 on up to 100), its always freeway driven.

So I am trying to figure it out. Any ideas would be awesome in helping solve this problem...

Here's my setup:[ul][*] Steeda CAI and with Steeda Tune (91 Octane) [*] Pypes Axle-Back Exhaust[*] Stock Cats[*] Stock Plugs
[/ul]

Thanks in advance!

This could be a problem with your tune. How many tanks of 91 have you put in it and how long have you had the intake/tune? This could also be non mod related, give us some more info Try without traction off as well

Hey str8wick3d, thanks for replying!

I've been running the CAI and tune (XCal) for a full year (it was a dealer installation) and pump 91 octane all the time. I havent tried launching with traction off, will try that. But for the most part the launch is always done in 1st (light to light) or when getting on freeways (15min commute, 26 miles r/t). I have a warmup time of 5 minutes whenever the car sits longer than 4 hrs (my habit).

One thing also is that every 1.5 months or so, it will consume a 1qt of oil. Is this regular?

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. Have your pump checked out... no engine warning lights no?

Sorry, havent been doing my homework... what else does the TCS control besides the traction? Is it really that integrated into the fuel management as well?

This is all really a big help guys!!

If your car senses to much wheel spin in the rear compared to the front wheels the traction control system, overrides fuel delivery and cuts fuel. Thats the backfire and sputter you are talking about. Happends to me all the time out on the slick las vegas roads with all the dirt. If you want to launch hard just turn off the TCS. Careful though, it can get sideways sometimes without it. Sometimes i get a clean straight launch and sometimes one side grabs alittle more and im pointed at the yellow line. But, like i said the roads out here suck, there is a fine coating of dust all over the streets. And it can cause wheel spin in even a crappy geo metro.
