The place I took mine to have a t-lok and 3.73 installed took about 3 hours. It was hard to get all of that in a 7.5 rear. I've heard the GT rear is easier... especially if all they are doing is replacing the stock gears.
Should be $200-$400

I wouldn't trust alot of the shops who claim to be experts in performance to install gears. I've seen that go bad a few times. The rearend in my 04 GT chewed itself apart after having 3.73s installed by a reputable Mustang performance shop. It's almost worth paying a dealer, and that will cost you plenty.

I'd look around for a differential shop. Here in Tucson we havea shopdedicated to rear-ends for any kind of car, and do great work when sports cars are brought in. You must have something around you.... ?

find a shop that is involved in teh racing scene....especialyl the strips or a mustang/ford specific shop......shouldnt be more than 300-350 for install, 200ish for FRPP gears and 100 for some RP and install kit.

The dealer will charge you 500+ for the install alone normally

I went to PSI Motorsports in Houston and was out the door in 3 hours with a $305 bill. Gears were about $225. Just ask around on the forums here or do some searches to see whats the best shop in your area. Good luck

Abit of topic here, but anyone here ever done it theirself? if so, what is involved? Does it work like the ford 9" or is it a totally different approach? Sry to change direction but i want this done and have set up a few rearends before but never a late model mustang. So kind of wondering if i could handle it...

Ohh and what is the difference in RPM change at 60-70 in 5th gear? is it alot or just a few hundered?

Ask around... A Ford Tech who usually does gears for the dealer here does them on weekends for $150.
Although he does them for me for a Six Pack (He did say no more Milwaukees Best... LOL).

The main thing you want is someone who knows what they are doing.
Someone who has done literally hundreds of installs.

If you want to see whats involved the Pirate4x4 site has an excellent article in tech on the install of gears.
Its not on an 8.8 but it will give you an idea.
