clutch problems anyone?
hey guys,
well i forgot to post this after my test drive a few weeks ago, another thread reminded me of it though. i took an 05 out for a test drive because it was only 19,500 and i was wondering why it was so cheap. i realised right away though that the clutch was totally gone on it. the shocks were gone aswell but i dont really care about that its an easy fix. how long do the stock clutchs last in our cars, mine is still feeling great after 19000 kms. anyone here (who knows how to drive a stick properly) managed to find that number that it starts to wear out at?

about 450rwhp...
I pulled mine out at 32,000 miles to replace it with a stronger unit. It was only slipping due to the power, not from being worn out. The friction material looked like it had lots of life left.

Well....
I bought my stang at 6500 miles... and by 7500 miles the clutch was gone. I didnt drive it hard, so obviously the person before me abused it for those 6500 miles. But, still, thats pretty short for a clutch life.
But heres the worst part..... From what I've been reading and experiencing, these clutches have problems with the throw out bearing and possibly the concentric slave cylinder more than they do with clutch wear, so even if your clutch lives long it may still need to be pulled now and then to replace that stupid bearing.
Not trying to scare you! I certainly have a lot worse luck than most people, but figured I'd share this.

I've got 18K on mine and probably made 50 passes on nitrous at the track and 15-2- N/A. When I got my clutch replaced there was alot of material left on it. Didn't even look like it was close to being done with. I just needed more grabbing power.
I had an old Bronco with 218,000 miles on the original clutch. It was still fine when I sold it.
Clutches are a wear item though so "normal" usage to one person isnt the same as another. I would say I woulnt worry about it at all for 50,000 miles unless you track it often.
I am going to try and run the stock one for a while with my whipple. I dont see why I wouldnt get another 15-20K miles even at the elevated hp level.
Although I am not a track junkie and spend 75% of my time on the highway.
