cut stock antenna?
the stock antenna is too tall IMHO
i was wondering if simply cutting it (~1/2?) would mess up the radio reception? what's that little blob on the tip and a spiral wire-looking thing on the antenna stick - do those have anything to do with the reception?
don't wanna pay for an aftermarket shortie

Cut the antenna to the lenth you desire. With a dremel tool grind down the end to a point that the ball will fit back onto the antenna end. You will need some super glue to hold it on. Use a little black paint to cover any exposed metal.
I found this out after I bought an 8" shorty antenna. [sm=headbang.gif]
Cutting the antenna down will have very little effect on reception. I have no issues with the 8" shorty on the car now.
I have cut down my factory antenna to the same height as the car roof. Just havent put it on yet.

RE: cut stock antenna?
I went to the local NAPA store and picked up a black antenna for $7, then cut it down and put a rubber tip on it that I picked up at the local hobby shop (got a package of them for $0.50) that they use for radio control cars/planes/boats. It was a lot easier to cut that antenna down because it isn't as thick.
