Default Auto shifter "boot" broken....

Today one of the plastic slides the sit directly infront of the auto shifter broke exposing the shifter linkage below. Does anyone have an info/diagrams on how to get the plastic trim off from around the shifter?

Thanks,

Scott

just pull it up, no attaching screws on bezel, just retaining clips.

also there are no serviceable parts, theplastic slidesare only service by ford as a complete shifter assy.

hey, there's a guy on the v6 tech side that just posted the same thing. It seems like it's more than coincidental to me. Sounds like a defect that warrants bringing to the attention of Ford if you are out of warranty. It never hurts to see if they will work with you especially if you make them aware of an issue.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll see if its anything I can repair before I head to the stealership. partsbill, any idea what that assembly runs?

Scott

Wow, just checked the other thread on this. The dealership wants $450 to replace the assembly. You got to be ****ing ****ting me.

Well, I was not about to pay the stealership to fix my shifter so I did it myself for $3.69. First I took of the plastic shroud around the shifter. Then I used a flat head screw driver to pop the tabs around the plastic shifter casing. I again took the screwdriver and used it to fish the rubber linkage cover out of the its slot in the front of the casing. I then took a bottle of loctite super glue with the precision tip and applied a line to the small plastic slot infront of the shifter. I pressed and held the rubber cover in place and good as new!!

I will try to get some pics up for anyone else who might have this issue.

Mine has not broken yet. It is just one of many points of rattle.
