Default Xpipe vs. Hpipe

Hey folks, I’ve tried to do some research on the topic but haven’t come up with much. Can someone help me understand the differences between an Xpipe and an Hpipe (other than shape) and how much they really enhance performance? Also, does one provide more performance over the other?

Thanks!

From my research, mostly talking to Brent a www.brenspeed.com , and reading onhere, the x is good for a couple(less than 5) horsepower over the H. The x is a little raspier sound, than the h, which is stock. If you go with off-road pipes you get as much as 10 horsepower more than stock, and your exhaust is substantialy louder. There is a bit of stink, andexhaust residue with the Off road pipes.

Hope this helps.

+1
the x shape/angle just flows better, to put it simply. more hp is gained by taking out the cats. or there is also the prochamber, that sounds closer to an h but a more cleaner sound than the h IMO.

I used to be totally against X-pipes because of the tinny, raspy sound they give to the exhaust. BUT...I have recently heard a couple of setups with catted X-pipesand straight-through mufflers (Pypes mid-mufflers or Borla stingers), and it sounded great especially with LT's. I would still steer clear of an offroad X, unless you like your V8 to sound like a sputtering Seadoo. JMO.

you mean the x-pipes no longer sound like a chain saw cutting thru a tin can? mine sounds more like a big block Seadoo.

...hehehe...

There are a few ways to describe the sound of the ORX.

chainsaw
Pepsi canin bicycle spokes
Seadoo
card shuffling
weedeater

Some people like it. I just like to make fun of it.

Seriously though, all X-pipes sound great! ([sm=bangbang.gif]) Haha!

check the official s197 exhaust thread to hear them. youtube also has lots of videos. i went w/ o/r H, and no muffler axlebacks. it is insanely loud, but it sounds awesome. definitely a lot of residue. my tips were once all polished looking, but now they are permanently black on the inside, unless someone here knows of a way to get the shine back that i dont know of. anyone?

use neverdull, or chrome/stainless polish. heres my boomtubes after cleaning w/ mothers chrome polish, and just a little rubbing:
