Painting stripes question
I have a vista blue mustang with white vinyl striping pictured below. I was planning on removing the vinyl in the next month or so before I take it out of its winter slumber and redoing the striping by painting it. I still plan on going with the dual white stripes, but am curious as to anyone who has added white stripes to theirs: what type of "white" paint didyou use? I havent looked into it at all (this is the beginning of my research into it), but I figure there are prolly 50 types of different shades of "white" and I don't plan on doing this a second time. I know how my dad is about "bright ideas" and adding "pearl" or other things to the paint "cause it would look cooler" and while some of his ideas in the past as I was growing up were pretty cool, I saw more than one idea that ended beyond hedious. Also, I'm assuming its smarter to clearcoat everything (hood, roof, bumper, rear deck, spoiler and rear bumper) but would like to confirm that as well.
Thanks for any help/advice/suggestions.

yes, if you dont re clear everything, the front bumper, hood, roof, trunk etc. you will feel the stripes and thats no good lol. as for what shade i couldnt tell you. but if i were you i would make each stripe at least 4in. wider.
I would think performance white would work well, it's a current Ford color and would not require special mixing I think, probably could buy it as is.
Definately get it flat sanded and have the stripes embedded so they feel like they aren't even there. After the reclear that is.
Good Luck!!

I think the pic I posted makes them look a bit smaller than they actually are currently. They are 8" and I will prolly change to 10" when I paint them on. The only reason I didnt go wider at the time was because while talking to the striper, he showed me how on my roush rear spoiler, the stripes would look messed up due to the curve on the spoiler. Obviously, painting them on will eliminate that problem. But I'm about 98% convinced about going to 10" stripes, but I highly doubt I'd go wider than that.
Yes, do use a factory white as you will likely need to have the fascia redone one day. The type of white is yours; white metallic would be very unique but not retro. I would go with a straight refrigertor factory white; The mustang white may be perfect for ya.
Definitely reclear all stripe surfaces. If the shop is indeed "top notch" on wet sanding and rotary buffing clear, I would suggest you ask them about simply reclearing the whole car. BTW do you have your mirrors painted yet? ...any other body mods intended? ...so you can do all at once and save $$$.

if you do paint your stripes on and go all the way down your rear bumper, make sure you paint inside where you tag goes...that will make everyone know they are painted without even touching your car
