I love the way the new edge mustang sounds with the 2valve engine. I hear it's credited to the catback. Anyone?

Your Mac axlebacks are basically the same thing as the Mac catback.....the reason why people get the full catback on the New Edges is because the stock piping is 2 1/4 Inch and is more restrictive....while the aftermarket catbacks are 2 1/2 Inch. So the point Im getting at is thecatbacks for the 05+ stangs are pretty much a waste of money b/c the stock tubing is also 2 1/2 inch so your stock pipes are the same as the aftermarket. If you bought a Catback for your s197 it would sound the same as if you bought just the mufflers....the reason why the 2V's sound so much better is because A)Its a 2V vs. 3V B) Mid' mufflered.....no 3V will sound close.

Yep.....it's the valves, man. 2-valve has that nice distinct thumping.

This is why I just went with the Pypes Mid Muffler system....gets it a bit closer to the 2V sound.

When I bought my Borla stinger catback system, I was hoping it would be a true catback (before axle) system. I bought it about a month after getting my car, and I was very uninformed when it came to Mustangs and modding. The reason I chose a catback was because of a video I saw comparing the Borla catback versus just the axleback. In the video the catback sounded so much better than the axleback. The axleback was airy and a little rough. The catback was deeper and smoother.

Here's the video. Axleback revs first, then Catback, then both.

I have the Pypes Mid Muffler. Great system and sound- fitment was a pain though.

I have the MAC catback system only because I got a great deal on it. The only difference is a few less bends then the stock system (meaning the air flows a bit better). I'm sure it's nothing you can notice though...
