What is the difference between all these different Avic radio's? I am seeing D1, D2, D3, Z1 ............ on peoples sigs. I was thinking of getting a factory nav system but people have mentioned Pioneer. Whats the best unit to get? Is the D3 the latest and best? Whats a good price for the D3? Whats involved for the install? Please help as I want to get sonn. Ive done so much stuff to improve power and exterior looks, now its time to please myself on the inside. Thanks.

My recommendation.....

www.avic411.com

I think between those two pages, you should get all you need. I like using CNET to get reviews for technological stuff before I buy it.

ditto on the self-install, waste of $150, took me likw 2 hours and I had never installed a head unit before... and I soldered everything, would have been a lot less time with vamp taps... ive seen it as low as about $500 (D3) online... the z2 is just like the d3 except that it has a built in hard drive so no need to take up disc slot with nav disc if you wanted to watch movies, tho i cant imagine how annoying it would be to have that voice cut out your movie everytime you needed to bear right... d3 is better if you already own an ipod and want to use that interface instead, since its a cheaper solution overall than the z2, the z2 is great if you would rather store your music locally, or are very annoyed at having to switch discs b/wn nav/movie/cd

I have the Z1 installed in the Mustang and the Z2 in my Escalade I love these units just make sure to use the bypass methode so you can make changes to the nav. while driving and not have to pull over everytime by doing this you can also watch movies while the carsparking brake is off.
Here is the Z1 in the mustang.
