Default Traction Control Question - Is mine actually working?

I just raced a black 96 Mustang GT, man was it fun. First we raced at around 60-90. Then at the next stoplight we chatted a little and I asked if he wanted to try it off the line so we did. I beat him both times but I noticed on the second time I really roached the tires, that's when I looked down and realized the T/C was not disabled. I always forget it! I might get one of those flashed chips just to have it disabled by default on startup. He was really cool and actually bowed to me after the second race, totally unnecessary but made me feel good nonetheless.

Anyway I had noticed several times that I have no problems spinning the tires with it on, isn't that what it is supposed to stop? I wonder if it actually helped me or hurt me in the last race?

On a side note I found a tiny dent on the passenger door, I think it happened the ONE TIME I parked right by the door at a fast food place. I remember coming out and seeing that the idiot next that parked next to me was very crooked and too close to my car. And my friends always make fun of me for being paranoid[:@]

i know the traction control allows some wheel spin but you shouldnt be able to totally roast them.

I'll have to try it with and without and make sure I do notice a difference. If it spins em even more without it I would be amazed, but that's ok I wouldn't mind being amazed[8D]

I will be doing some racing when my friend brings his SRT4 up this summer. I will see if it actually helps you or hurts you. I suppose it depends on how much control you have on the wheel spin. If you totally spin out on start up it would definetley not help you.

I work for the company that produces the abs/tc system and the brakes on the mustang. I wrote some of the code that is in the abs/tc controller. The tc is designed to allow some wheel slip on high traction surfaces during the initial launch. Without this slip, the engine just bogs down and the car goes nowhere. As the vehicle accelerates and the speed goes up the amount of slip is gradually reduced. This all helps keep the engine running near its peak torque for the surface. On lower traction surfaces like wet pavement or gravel or snow/ice the amount of allowable slip is reduced so that the car can get moving but maintain stability.

Wow, thanks. That makes me feel a lot better. There's probably nothing wrong with it then, just a first time stang owner that is not used to all the power at my command

I will have to turn it off and really let it loose the next chance I get.

Hey it was only one time! And the last time!

Imagine, the middle of the day, not busy at all, I park between a handicapped ramp and another empty spot. Even parked a little over towards the ramp for a little extra room. They took forever to make our sub sandwiches to go and when I came out they were there. I had to back out to so my passenger could get in my car. I looked then but didn't see any damage. That was the only time I've ever parked near someone.[sm=badbadbad.gif]

Even at Walmart where the parking lot is bigger than a small country I park way on the very outer edge where I know no one will park next to me.

Just pisses me off people can be such asses. If I ever parked too close to someone, and somehow got by car so damn crooked like they did, and on opening my door I accidentally bumped thier car I would look to see if I did any damage and at least appologize to them. Bastards. Crap I need a beer to calm me down now[sm=alcoholic.gif]

So I'm out test driving the new stang many moons ago and I am all hyped up, just frikin bouncing as i pull back into the dealership. I get out, my girlfriend opens the pasenger door, it slips(we are on a slight grade) the door swings open and POW!@#$!$!#! it bangs right into this V6 2005 stang that a guy had just brought in for mods. After a few words and some weak punches thrown by the owner of the car the dealer comes out and tells him he will pay for it. I said, "Thanks bro, I'll order one of these but make it torchred with an IUP and a shake~n~baker 1000." the estimate for repairs for a door ding was 600$ I swear my woman is dingy, but that kind of faux pas is just too much. Good thing she is hella fine and good in the sack...

AND NO, SHE WILL NOT BE DRIVING MY GT....OR PARKING ANYWHERE CLOSE TO MY CAR. IF MY CAR IS NOT IN THE GARAGE SHE WILL BE PARKING A BLOCK AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
