Why the hate for shorty headers?

How can anyone say that these are the same as the factory header.....
How can anyone say that these are the same as the factory header.....
These are the correctS197GT shorty headers:

I have a pair of Ti ceramic coated JBA shortys withMagnaFlow Tru-X Pipe with OBDII compliant High-Flow catsand blowing through thestock rear mufflersmy car showed 16-18rwhp on a DynoJet using SAE correction and smoothing set to 5 (lowest readings). With the same JBA/MagnaFlowTru-X Pipe and a set of 2-1/2"MagnaPack cat backswe saw 18-20rwhp on thesame dyno using the same correction and smoothing. These numbers are within spitting distance of the best full length small tube primary headers (and you WANT the small tube primaries on a N/A 4.6l) and an O/R or catted X or H pipe. Whoever said shortys don't work didn't try them or at least didn't try JBA's and a good high velocitydown pipe.

i have been contemplating getting either shorties or LT's.....my buddy that has an 04 gt swears they made his car alive and it is quick,,we actually got it to 157 on the highway...his bud(a cop) helped with that detection! oh yeah, i am from south georgia and the camaro mustang battles have been going on forever, even after the demise of the camaro. but the new camaro is coming real soon(which may suck if your gt is stock)......anyway, the gto isn't around here that much.....if i see one it has a 65 year old man and his wife in it(i guess there reliving the real gto days)! i am going to wait on the shorties, but for the money, i am not sure it is a wise investment for what you get.........my friend has this "part" that he doesn't say much about....he took the entire exhaust system off of his 04 and put these "plastic pieces" into the o2 sensor to keep the engine light off.....they obviously work, but he is a little shaddy about telling where and what they are....he is also a ford mechanic

The JBA shortys are 50 states emissions legal and work 100% correctly with the stock S197GT engine management systems. The MagnaFlow Tru-X Pipe with OBDII compliant high-flow cats are also 100% compatable with the stock emissions systems and the O2 sensors bolt into the same spots as the stock Ford catted downpipe. The cats areOBDII compliant which means the stock O2 sensors screw into the cats just like the stock cats, not monkey business involved. The difference in the MagnaFlow Tru-X Pipe and the stock pipes are obvious when you have them side-by-side.The MagnaFlow cats arehigh-flow cats with 2 1/2" inlets and outlets and amuch larger catalyst matrix. Thestock Ford catsdo not havea full 2 1/2" inlets and outlets, the exhaust tubing iscrimped downto 2"where they arewelded to the cats. This meansthe stock high density catalyst bricksare great emissions and for sound reduction but bad for airflow volume and turbulance. Additionally the MagnaFlow Tru-X Pipe is designed to put the cats higher upin theexhaust system line to avoid the sharp bend at theexit of the catswhich reduces turbulence and the sharp pinched off bend the stock H-pipesrquired due to the cats beingmounted too close to the ground. The Magnalow Tru-X Pipe also uses smooth mandel bends and has a full diameterX-pipe balance/merge tube instead of thesmaller restricted 2" H-pipe balance tube used in the stock system. These things are what makes the MagnaFlow Tru-X Pipe work so well as part ofa complete shorty header exhaust systemand so muchbetter suitedthan the stock H-pipe. The combination of the JBA equal length shorty header and the MagnaFlow Tru-X Pipe is why they make nearly as much power as any of thelong tube headers and matchingdown pipes AND do it smog legal to boot. Ithas also been my experience that most long tube setups loose noticable low and midrange torque overthe stockmanifolds andcatted H-pipe. The reason is largely due to choosingtoo large primaries and not enough back pressure or back wave pulse to keep from overscavenging the freshintake charge. This is one reason why I sohighly recommend using fullycatted H or X-pipes with long tubes instead of O/R pipes. This problem only gets worse with longer duration cams like the Comp Cams Stage 3 sticks and shortys start to gain back theedge.

I have OBX racing long tubes, but I can't say other than sound what difference they made HP wise, but if I can get well into the 500rwhp realm, which I will be doing once I get 60# injectors and only 10.5#'s of boost...I have to believe they are doing something, because I think those are pretty strong numbers for only running that amount of boost...I also like the sound that resulted from installing those headers with some Magnaflow high flow cats...
On another note...as some of you know my fiance drives a 2005 GTO and with me putting down 282rwhp and 301rwtq and her putting down 343rwhp/345rwtq and we dynoed on the same dyno the same day...this was before my procharger...at any rate we constantly did pulls from a roll, not from a dig, but once we both hit it her car would take me with ease...maybe you guys have been racing fat people...lol...but car for car I never had a chance on the street...oh and another thing the 5.7L and the 6.0L goats are completely different performance wise...the 6.0L is very impressive...

Let's take this for example... Shorty headers. Everybody is against them.. I've even heard one person quote that the factory manifolds are as just as good as shorty headers. First of all, that's pretty dang illogical. I will agree however, that if you get the cheapest set of shorty's then yes, you will gain very little. What about the ever praised JBA? You know that they make a set of equal length shorty heads and there dyno proved that on a mild bolt on 3v, it pick up 12-18 Hp... It's on their website.. What about BBK's set of equal length headers....dyno proven to pick up 10-13 extra Hp on a stock application.
What I want to know is.. where is the dyno proven paper that proves that there is NO gain what-so-ever with shorty's. I've seen nothing but dyno proven gains with shorty's.. I agree though that longtubes are better, but with people like me who have dropped their Stang.. Ground clearance becomes an issue and they would rather opt for shorty's

Hi 8URGTO,
Ignorance? Long tube buyer's remorse? Lack of experience? Take your pick.
HTH!
I don't really have clearance issues with my car and its dropped pretty significantly...2.0" rear, 1.7" front, I also have high flow cats now as of this weekend and I still don't have clearence issues...
Well what about emissions, sure long tube headers are much better performance wise, but what does performance matter when you cant pass smog.... I was going to get long tube headers until i found out they dont pass smog in cali. Thats y im pretty sure after i get the cervinis side exhaust im going to get the jba short headers and the pypes emission legal high flow cat. Yeah, you could take everything off and put the stock stuff back on when you get smogged....but i dont want to have to go through that crap. but i definitely agree long tube headers out perform short ones by far.
I am thinking the SLP long tubes with their shorty X-pipe and Loud mouth exhaust. And they guarantee up to 15 horse power on the dyno at the rear wheels. Plus I like the sound of the loud mouth exhaust.
