From what i understand, the smallest choke point on the exhaust is by the axle and muffler, getting cat backs means the biggest choke point would now be the cats, i'd say if you really wanted to sound obnoxious, i think it would be safe to leave the cats open. you would probably keep enough back pressure to not hurt anything. I just don't know if i'd like the idea of exhaust blasting the under side of my car. or possibly getting into the cabin while at idle [X(]

rford426 (thread starter) car is in a "retard mode" he just called me and said his car won't do anything. He can't start it, lights aren't working, can't unlock, lock his car. He can't do anything.
Any idea why it's doing this.. what does he need to do? He is going to reload his tune to see if that works.
I already told him he was dumb for taking them off, but anyway back to the point lol.

If its just for noise, I can definitly say that there are cheap muffler swap ins that will sound crazy loud. Downside to no muffler system: too much noise, smell, and it is illegal.
I experimented with 2 different muffer swap ins and decided on the one that was a little louder then stock and looked better in my opinion. I saw a very marginal power gain which could very well be my imagination. Reading these boards I can see that some people have had good performance gains with complete exaust system replacements. I'm too poor to affordthis and I want a car that will still be street legal so I'm sticking with my cheap muffler swap in.
