Default Insurance Update

I've had my 2006 GT in storeage all winter so my insurance was minimal. Called the insuance guy and had my insurance kicked in.
$589.00 for 6 mos. BUT I have $12,000.00 in mods Iv'e bought over winter. Nothing much installed yet but by April it's all going to be installed.
New rate on the way. They call it Declared Value. That's to cover my investment & blue book. It's going up to $1,200.00 for 6 mos!!
I'm retired,59yrs. and a clean record. WOW what a shock. This is not need to know info but nice to know info.

Why would it double for $12,000 in mods?? That must mean your car is only worth $12,000 since it doubled??? Sounds like youre being ripped off. I know I have that much if not more in mods and I just keep it on the down low. If I have an accident then ill buy the car back and salvage what i can and part the rest out. No way would i pay it!

Is a blower part of your 12K in mods?

I'm paying about $2,200 a year for my completely stock 07 GT/CS. Thankfully, they(government run insurance, have no choice in picking an insurance provider)just started a new program where your insurance skyrockets - at least doubles andusually even higher than that, if you get 2 speeding tickets in the course of a year or one major ticket (running a red, reckless driving, etc). If it has the expected effect, it should result in my insurance dropping like a stone to I'm hoping under $1,000 a year (38 years old, spotless driving record).

exactly, i am guessing its not just insurance on the added value of the car, the cars values actually hasnt changed a great deal....if you were to sell it outright or trade it in, you will not be able to get 12K for the addons, maybe 2-4

+1 definitely not for the added value in my opinion. For the added risk to the insurance company more likely![:@]

59 years old with a clean record...
They want to take you for a ride it's not even funny!
I don't care if you have 1000hp under the hood and 25K in mods, you should never be in that rip off bracket[:@].
Wouldn't be surprized if it was a Geico quote.

Ditch the bastards... Plenty of competition out there.

I forgot... Since you guys up North don't use your Stangs in the winter, you could always insure them with Hagerty (and the likes) as an exotic/classic car for peanut Dollar (no deductible).
You have a certain maximummileage to respect per year but you might be in that range.
It's worth a phone call.

+1 to pascal's comment - i would take my business elsewhere. and if you do, seriously consider what you report and don't report to your agent. they don't need to know about all of your mods; it'll only be potential money out of your pocket, not theirs. why pay so much money up front and consistently for mods that might be salvageable in the event of an accident anyway?
