Default Inspection

So i decided to go get my inspection done. I have a sct tuner so i plugged it in and retuned it to stock tune. Then i leave the house and go to the inspection place. I wait about 10 minutes , then he walked up handed me a paper that said i failed.... He asked if my battery went dead and i said yes ( because early i had reset the tune) so apparenty thats a big no no if you want to pass inspection. I have a question if i would have left my tune on would i pass inspection?

That's not a lot to go on, but I'm guessing that your emissions testing is via the OBD II diagnostic port. Whatever procedure that you followed in order to reset to stock tune apparently either involved disconnecting the battery or otherwise took the PCM out of 'Ready' status - which is cause for failure at least here in NJ. If that's the case, driving normally for a day or two is usually enough to achieve 'Ready' status. Stubborn cases may take longer or require a specific driving pattern be followed.

with the tune, you will only pass if the rear O2 sensors are turned on and you do not throw any CEL lights. (not sure if you have an off road pipe or not.) When you reflash the stock tune you need to let the computer cycle for 100 miles or so before you can get it inspected

After reinstalling your stock tune you will have to drive about 100 miles on your car before it will pass.

50 miles should do it. Just remember if you use the SCT, it will take at least 50 miles driving before it will be "Ready" for Inspection.

Usually that's enough. But it should include a cold start and a variety of driving conditions. I had to get some customer's car into 'Ready' mode when I was working at a dealership and it took three attempts on two separate days following the 'book' driving schedule that's supposed to minimize the time it takes.

On the other hand, my '01 Maxima goes 'Ready' after clearing codes in under 10 miles.

You can use your SCT to check the rediness code to see if it went away, don't clear it cause you will have to wait again, just check it.

Plug in His SCT tuner & scroll to check DTC's then choose select, the rediness code will appear until the test is complete. Like I said before do not clear the code cause you will be resetting the process. I am going through it with a work van I own that needs inspection, I had a cel for a bad gas cap, I replaced the cap & cleared the code, instantly the rediness code appeared, know I'm stuck driving a swimming pool van around in the winter just to complete the test so I can get it inspected (also NJ).
