Default Cut outs

This might be a really stupid question.. but what the hell. What are these so called exhaust cut outs?? i was on lmperformance and they say "go to open headers in a second"

Im assuming these are REALLY loud? Is this what that guy has in that famous video on youtube "extremely noisy mustang"

They are only like $70. Thanks.

It is an electriclly operated exhaust port (think of a "Y"). You push the button )and it opens an alternate dump straight out avoiding the mid-pipe and mufflers.

the guy with extremely noisy mustang wasn't using cut outs, i posted the question on the video LOL. He was running open headers disconnected from the mid pipe. To answer your question on volume...yes they are loud. You have SLP's if you switch to an off road mid pipe you pretty much have open headers lol

Cutouts can be mechanically operated or electrically operated. I'd be leary using them on the Stang since you'd change the operating parameters of the exhaust system in such a way (going from open to close and back) that I'd bet you'd throw a CEL depending on your exhaust configuration and tune.

i'd go with long tubes and a catted mid pipe. BBK longtubes and catted x, i've heard in person and sounded good and VERY loud. This coming from a guy who dislikes raspy sounds. I've also heard the longtubes and offroad pipe...yuck. My vote goes to long tubes and catted x, whatever longtubes you get is up to you

Using cut outs, or 'dumps' as we used to call them, basically eliminates any back pressure in the exhaust system.A certain amount of back pressure is required to get peak performance. Just having cut outs won't necessarily improve performance and in fact, performance would be reduced most likely and you would stand a very good chance of burning some valves.

Ah okay. Yeah, i guess cut-outs aren't recommended. Lol. Forget it.

Anyone have OBX LT's? What mid-pipe are you using with em? Thanks.
