Default Storing the pony.

Hey guys, I won't be driving the car for 5+ months. I'll have someone that can start the car every so often to make sure the battery stays alive; but what else should I do to prevent anything from getting nasty?

Should I have little to no gas in the tank, or a full tank with some type of additive to prevent it from going bad? Should I change the oil just before I go? Stuff like this is something I don't have any knowledge on so hopefully some of you guys can fill me in.

I'll be honest... I think the search function is garbage.

Don`t disagree, although, the last few times I`ve tried it, seems to be improved. Most times it seems to have PMS

Get a battery maintainer for it (as long has you have power in the garage that is)

Everyone has their own preferred methods.

When I put mine away for the winter, I simply fill it up, park it and cover it. Nothing extra is done and every spring when I get in it it fires up right away, runs perfect and doesn't even lose any tire pressure.

Now if the car were a few years older that might not work as well but in the cars first few years of life, it has been perfectly fine for me.

I've always heard that if it's going to be over a few months or so without even a short drive you might want to drain the oil out of the car, put some fuel stabilizer in there, and put it up on blocks.

I agree, the search mal-function bites it.

Mines been sitting for almost 5 months now[:@].....I have a 1/4 tank of gas in it (forgot to fill it up[&:]).......the same oil that was in it over the last summer (2,000 miles) and no additives. I have started it once a month and let it run for about 10-15 minutes. Every time I start it it starts right up and runs beautifully......I never had a battery issue.

+1 on search [mal]function.

Another decent idea when storing it for that long is to put steel wool in the tailpipes to prevent mice from making a home in your exhaust..

And put mousetraps on the floor in the interior, just incase one gets in there, so they don't eat your seats.

If you're storing it in a wet/humid climate, a pan or two of kitty litter under the car to absorb moisture is also a good idea.

And definitely cover it.
