Default Nuts, Nuts, Nuts

I had a mishap with a tire rotation, I don't even want to go into details. Lets just say it was the most difficult and frustrating tire rotation I've EVER done. [:@]Regardless, I had to use the wrong socket to get the job done so I could drive my car since it's my daily driver. I ordered a set of lug nuts from American Muscle that night and new sockets, since I broke all of my old ones. However, I just got them and I tried to put them on. The thread is fine, they screw onto the stud, but the head is way too big. It'll fit inside of my wheels but you could never get a socket in there. The head is about 21mm, this isn't right, is it? The lug nuts that are on there now are 19mm which I've heard is just about every other newerMustang. I don't know if it matters but my wheels are American Racing Rogues ...

I know when I worked at a tire place, that some wheels have really small lug nut hole clearances.. You need a really thin wall socket. Are you using an impact socket or a regular socket? If you're using an impact socket try a regular socket because the walls are thinner. Otherwise you might have to find a tire place that has the right socket.

My socket isn't the problem, theresNO room to put a socket in there, only to get it started finger time. The lug nut is just flat massive compared to the ones that came with the wheels. It's a 21mm head none the less compared to the 19mm. I think I got the wrongones from American Muscle.

It's possible that their lut nuts aren't designed for that wheel inspecific... Give them a call tomorrow and let them know what type wheels you have and see if their lugs work on that wheel.

I've seen a set of sockets made specifically for removing lug nuts. They have a plastic tube that is removable for tighter clearances. However, from your description that wont work either.

Sorry man, I know how frustrating that can be!

Thanks, that's the wheel, just in Black/Polished.

I really think it's the wrong lug nut because a difference of 3mm is a pretty big difference for something like this or I need special lug nuts for this wheel. Can anyone with aftermarket wheels go verify that their lug nuts are in fact 19mm? Thanks in advanced.

I had the same problem with a set of rims I just ordered I ended up buying a new set of splined lugnuts that are much smaller and come with a splined socket to use with them. I couldn't get a 21mm socket in the holes either. Here are the lugnuts I ordered http://www.lugshack.com/gorilla-styl...lug-nuts-.html

I have those wheels on my mustang and I had to scrap all the lug nuts. Cause some I could get a socket on and some I couldn't. What I ended up doing was buying these http://www.americanmuscle.com/chlolugnuand.html to replace all my lug nuts.

Have not had a problem with them for the year I have had them on.

Ford apparently useseither a 19mmor a21mm lug nut on some light trucks (like my Eddie Bauer Expedition), but I think Mustangs are all supposed to be 19mm.
