Default Running a PC in the car

I recently bought an ASUS EEE PC (http://www.nurl.us/7ts) and one way that I plan to use it is in my Mustang. I have ordered a mount for it from Pro.Fit (http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/). I have loaded software on there to support my photography on trips. I have a browser and email program for when I get there. For use in the car, I loaded Delorme Street Atlas and SCT LiveLink.

Is anyone else running some sort of PC in your Mustang? If so, what software do you have loaded?

Yes - send a PM to the guy named "hessian". He has a 'carputer' installed. Also take a look at this: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...7-mustang.html

Geez, I hardly play music in my ride,I prefer to listen to the motor.I idea of having a PC in a car is kinda cool but purely novelty only.

I don't know what you could possibly do hunched over the screen "for photography". Storage? Image manipulation? Image review? We both know you'd use a laptop or a decent image bank unitfor all those

Well, I use the stereo for music. I'm not planning to run music from the PC. I do turn the stereo off to hear the engine some, too.

I carry a 40 GB USB laptop size drive with me, so it has lots of storage. And even thought the screen is only 800 X 480, it's good for reviewing pictures at the end of the day. I wouldn't do much manipulation on it, though. I wait until I get home for that anyway.

I think its a pretty darn cool idea to put a 'carputer' in, assuming its done correctly. There are tons of possibilities for its use: stereo (think 1000s of MP3s on the HD); TV tuner (over air), Video (rip DVD's to the drive), Navigation, games, rear/side camera, performance monitoring, theorectically you could even change your engine Tune with a few clicks and monitor DTCs, etc, storage of photos taken on trips; find a hotspot: emails, web browsing, Vonage or other internet calling, etc, etc. Yes - you can do all this stuff without a carputer but it takes multiple devices and you'd have to lug around a laptop. Why not have one system that does it all. Personally I don't spend enough time in the car to warrant the expense and work putting one in but if I was a salesman or did a whole lot of traveling by car, I'd really think about it.

You just nailed it all rite there. I think it sounds like a good idea.

i gotta carputer in mine too. I'm usin digitaldash from www.gnetcanada.com cause it's free and it's decent. i'm also usin phone control to control myphone via bluetooth.I was using ICT (in car terminal ) but therewere some bugs with it. i mounted the screen with a metra 2din kit and zip tied the screen to the kit. and put an amp in to replace the sucker500 system. I'm very happy with it and it sounds better than a soundsystem my friend had installed in his 350Z for $1000. all in all it costed me $1300 but i can listen to hd radio, gps, sync my phone, wifi, use my edge network, play mp3's, surf the web, hands free with bluetooth where my phone gets answered and the audio goes to the speakers and i talk into a mic, on-board diagnostics, video (reception sucks), can play dvd's (for my little nephew), can rip dvd's, can burn dvd's

the possbilities are endless... it took alot of tweakin of the software though !!!!!!

I really want to have a computer in my dash.... I was working on it as a project on my 05 GT, I could not get myself to comit to a project that magnituded , with the reik of a regular MS Widows crash ... any way... I think it's the coolest think anyone can do to there car , personaly ( complet computer geek) , the power and mobility of having (email, browsing , Rear View camera, TV, GPS, Digital storage , and even Gaming, DVD storage in the car is cooler than engien mods.. ) so I hope in the future I will comit with my 08 GT
