HELP NOW PLEASE - spark plug break-loose torque
I'm tackling the spark plug removal right now, and am trying to break the plugsloose 1/8-1/4 turn per the TSB. I have my torque wrench set to 30, and it's not enough because not one has broken loose.I am a bit hesitant to go up in torque. For those who have done this successfully, how much torque was needed for the initial break free. (I know the removal torque is about 33 lb/ft once their broken free, but the TSB doesn't specify the break-loose torque).

When I replaced mine I didn't use a torque wrench to start the plugs. Some of the plugs were tough to break loose, a couple required the use of a cheater bar on the end of the wrench to loosen them.

Set the wrench for 33, grit my teeth -nothing. This is with cold engine. I just let the engine run for 30 minutes to full operating temp. I'll let it cool down for 10-15 and when it's just warm but not hot to touch, I'll give it another go starting at 20 torque. Man this really sucks. If I can't get then out with warm engine and 30 torque or less, I'll just let the dealer f**k with it and prepare for battle if they break any.

Okay, the warm engine worked - they broke loose with the torque set at 25. None of them popped or cracked (well maybe one slightly) so fingers croseed. Now it's just carb cleaner, wait, turn the wrench and hope.

How many miles is on your car? How accurate is your torque wrench? I don't think mine took more than 30 ft lbs. I set my wrench to 25 and it was a little after the click. I only had 12k miles on the engine though.

About to turn 25K. I was all set to bag it if the warm engine didn't work, but it did, and i almost wish it didn't. Now i have to follow the whole thing through and try not to have a heart attack. BTW, my torque wrench is a Husky (home depot).
